Believe in God?

The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." (Psalms 14:1)

Did you know that everyone believes in a god? It might not be the God seen in the Bible, but they still believe in a god. The first commandment instructs us that we are not to "have any other gods before Him". It's interesting to note what it doesn't say. It doesn't tell us not to believe "there is no god". The reason why: it's impossible for us to go through life without believing, or putting our trust, in some sort of god.

Sometimes a god might be something as simple and inconspicuous as another person, a hobby, or an attitude. Atheists might not believe in a supreme being, but they believe in a god, nonetheless. They can call it just an "intellectual" belief, but it's still a god. Yes, a belief can be a god.

Sometimes people make their own gods by ascribing certain characteristics to God that don't exist, or by "picking and choosing" which qualities they like best, and discarding the ones that don't sound to their liking. Even people who believe there's a God have inadvertently chosen a false god by these types of methods. Here are just a few of these misbeliefs:

  • God is loving; therefore He would never send anyone to Hell.

  • God is uninterested with what happens to mankind, and accordingly, unconcerned with sin.

  • God doesn't love us (this is in despite of the fact that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to pay a penalty we could not pay, so we could live eternally with Him).

Are you worshipping a false god today? The Bible tells us that idolaters, or those who put their trust in something or someone other than God, will not go to Heaven.

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 6:9)

The Bible tells us that only those who put their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will go to Heaven. In John 14:6, Jesus tells us that "no one comes to the Father but through me". There is no other path or any other options. We either do it God's way, the correct way and be blessed, or choose to do it our own way, and suffer the consequences. Which will you choose?

Absolutely right! I only wish I could get my own dad to see this, but he remains stiff-necked!
