Now that the "DaVinci Code" is out in theatres, I've been asked what my opinion on it is. Although I've heard that very little of it (maybe 5%) of the information in the movie is accurate and/or scriptural, the fact that it combines truth and error makes it even more believable. I've read that even some "Christians" who have read the book the movie is based on are now questioning their faith, or altogether renouncing what they believe. I really can't see how this can be, since a true Christian is indwelt by the Holy Spirit. If the Holy Spirit is truth (John 16:13), then it seems illogical to me that someone could deny the truth of who Jesus Christ really is...the Son of God, and savior of the world.
In order to distinguish between what is truth and falsehood, all that one needs to do is to look to the Bible. It is the Word of God; it is entirely inspired by Him, and it is inerrant. Years ago, before I became a Christian, my view was that some of the Bible was truth, and some of it, due to the passage of time, was error. However, I now believe that it is 100% true and 100% accurate. The Bible can be validated, too, from the hundreds of prophecies which were foretold in Old Testament times which have now come to pass.
A few years back, I read a book entitled "More Than A Carpenter" which detailed the many Old Testament prophecies concerning Jesus which were fulfilled by Him in His lifetime. According to statisticians, the chances of any one man fulfilling just 8 of those prophecies was 1 in 1017, or 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000 (that's 1 in 100 quadrillion, if I'm reading that right). Just think, though...Jesus fulfilled more than just 8 of those prophecies. And many more prophecies were fulfilled which didn't concern Jesus, also. Statisticians say with those odds it would be virtually impossible for those events to have just happened by chance. To me, that tells me there's a higher intelligence out there (God) because all those events didn't just occur "by accident". Somebody had to know about them ahead of time. Therefore, we can trust the Bible as the source of ALL truth.
