The Big Lie, Part 2

March 1, 2007 / by passtheword

It was bound to happen. I'm going through my email yesterday, and I find something from AFA. It's about how the Discovery Channel is airing this show about the tomb of Jesus. I heard about this the other day, but didn't know much about it. It turns out the program is just another one of the many lies Hollywood and the television industry has put out to discredit the work of Jesus.

I had read something similar about this a year or two ago, some news report that was on CNN.com, msn.com, I can't really remember which one it was. That story (and that's a fairly accurate word to call it, "story", because it most assuredly isn't truth), stated that, although Jesus Christ lived on earth and was crucified, he was never resurrected. The latest "news" on the Discovery channel program, "The Tomb of Jesus", tells us that they have found the body of Jesus Christ, among other absurd notions. The reason for both of these two stories is obvious. Satan has such a difficult time trying to prove that Jesus didn't ever exist (there's too much historically to prove He did), so, rather, satan has found it to his advantage to discredit Jesus instead. Convince people that Jesus was never resurrected (or that his body has been found, which would indicate the same idea) and therefore Jesus never had to atone for the sin of mankind. If satan can trick the world into believing that idea, that there is no sin, then man can live outside the boundaries of God, and it's acceptable; God didn't so love the world that He sent His one and only Son (John 3:16). If the body of Jesus were found and there never was a resurrection, there is no hope, no peace with God, and no heaven. Pretty crafty, is't he?

The program also tells us that statistically they have proven this "fact", they tell us it's a 600-1 likelihood the body of Jesus has been found in that tomb (or conversely, 1 in 600 that it's not his body). Although those odds seem to validate their statement, a 600-1 possibility isn't a given. There are still things that happen to people everyday that are 600-1 odds, and although unlikely, are not impossible; more on that in another article I'm going to write on statistics, I like math. :) Those same people purporting these "facts" neglect to mention the numerous prophecies about Jesus in the Bible, and those prophecies, written hundreds of years before the time of Jesus, have come true. In fact, statisticians say that, considering the number of prophecies that Jesus fulfilled, it is impossible for those events to have happened by chance, and that's just considering a handful of them, not the many hundreds which have come to pass. One of the books I was reading about all of this stated that for Jesus to fulfill just 8 of those prophecies was 1 in 1017, quite a difference than a 1 in 600 chance, don't you think? I've written more on this on our other page: More Than a Carpenter.

I don't know what's going to transpire out of all of this, but every time people try to discredit God, he still has an "ace to play" and He'll eventually turn all this nonsense about the tomb to His advantage and glory. It's scriptural too, 1 Corinthians 3:19 tells us that "the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness."

For those of you who aren't christians, you need to know there's a God who loves you very much. He has a plan for your life, but that plan can't be instituted because of the one thing that separates you from God, and that is sin. Since we can't get rid of sin on our own, and God, being holy, just, and without sin, we have a problem. The answer: God sent His son, Jesus Christ, who was God Himself in the flesh, to pay the penalty of sin that we all owe. God understands we're not perfect, and we can't redeem ourselves, but He also cannot condone sin. God had to judge sin at the cross, but He also demonstrated His mercy, by giving His life for you and me sou we could come to know Jesus, and be free from the penalty of sin.
