Close To The End?

I've just been reading about the catastrophic earthquake that hit China today. The geologists are now saying the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.9 and has already killed around 9000 people.

These sorts of natural disasters where thousands die at a time is becoming all the more common. Last week, a cyclone hit the country of Myanmar, and reports are that as many as 100,000 people perished as a result of it. In 2004, the people of Sri Lanka had a terrible tsunami, which killed 300,000 people.

It's not just earthquakes, either. The tornadoes have been awful this year. Here in the US during the past couple of weeks, we've had several major tornadoes, too with dozens killed. As time goes on, these tornadoes seem to occur with greater frequency and strength, and in turn, kill more people. Hurricanes are getting progressively worse, too. Remember Hurricane Katrina?

Some folks might blame it on global warming, but I do believe we're beginning to see these events happen for a reason. God tells us in the scriptures (Matthew 24 among others) that just before the last days, there will be an increase in earthquakes and other natural disasters.

You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. (Matthew 24:6)

The Bible tells us in the book of Revelation that during the time of the tribulation, there are going to be all sorts of catastrophic events happen, much greater than we're seeing now and that millions will die in one event. I believe these weather and geological events we're now experiencing are the "birth pains" the Bible mentions that will occur just before the tribulation. I believe it's a way of acclimating us to these types of events so that when the tribulation does happen, those events won't seem so out of the ordinary. By the time most people realize what's really behind all these events, it's going to be too late.

...to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, "Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens. (Hebrews 12:25-26)

We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.(Hebrews 2:1-3)

Reading some of the comments online about the earthquake today, I noted that many people today are turning away (or have already turned away) from God because they can't understand how a loving God could allow those things to happen. While it might not make sense to us why those things happen under God's control, we have to trust God and know He does have a greater plan. Why do these events keep happening? Because man has turned away from God and we are reaping the consequences of our sin. The Bible tells us how we will reap what we sow, not just in the physical sense but the spiritual sense as well. For all those sins we commit, the consequences of those actions are going to manifest themselves in some fashion, not only in our daily lives but also our environment. The more we turn away from God, the more we're eventually going to pay for it. God is going to eventually judge sin, and it's going to be expressed in His great wrath, the Tribulation.

The end is coming and it's much closer than we think. There is a way you can avoid having to go through those perilous times. Look to Jesus Christ to save you. He's the only way you can escape God's coming wrath.

    Hi passtheword.

I agree 100 percent with you, and what the Bible has to say about the end times. Yes, time is near for that great day. I am a Borned again christian, and I am ready for the rapture. Meet you in glory.
