It Could Happen Today

I've been watching news coverage about the bridge collapse in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area which happened earlier tonight. So far, the reports say that more than 50 cars plunged into the water below. There have been dozens of injuries with at least nine people dead. We all need to pray for the families which were affected by the disaster and for those involved in the recovery efforts.

If you've ever read this blog before, you know that I make my thoughts known about preparing about eternity, even my last post was about this very subject. I do so because it's so very important, and I can't help but stress the fact that we all need to be prepared about eternity. More than likely, those people who were killed in the bridge collapse didn't even give it a second thought this morning when they got up and went to work, that by the end of the day they would be stepping into eternity. Since the collapse occurred during rush hour, most of those people were heading back from work and had no idea they would never make it home. We never know when death will come, and it is absolutely essential that we know ahead of time about where we'll spend eternity (there are only two places you can go). We also have to be certain we have the correct information about how to get to heaven. If we don't, and we're in a situation where we're facing eternity as those people did, we may not have time to take care of the matter. After we die, there's no going back to rectify that decision. It'll be too late.

Don't wait. The Bible says that "today is the day of salvation". None of us knows where we'll be tomorrow. We might be alive, we might not. God's Word tells us that those who put their faith and trust in God's son, Jesus Christ, will be saved and spend eternity in heaven.

What happened tonight ought to be a reminder to all of us that we must not let the most important decision "be put on a shelf and dealt with later". Heed the call. I'm sure Noah tried to warn others about the impending flood, and many didn't listen. But the flood did come...
