Southeast Tornadoes

February 6, 2008 / by passtheword

As most of you know, the weather was bad here in the south last night...very bad. Here in Alabama, we were in the low risk of severe activity, but there was some damage and three fatalities as a result of the storms. At our place, we didn't get any real bad weather, just a few thunderstorms in the wee hours of the morning.

Unfortunately, the people in Mississippi, Arkansas, and Tennesee experienced the worst part of it. Just take a look at the pictures of all the devastation through those areas. The last update I heard was that the storm system killed 45 people. I found this story online where several of the survivors were interviewed following the storm, giving accounts of what they experienced:

Southeast Tornado Story

It's interesting to note that so many of them found themselves in situations where they didn't have much time to react. If they did have ample time, some of them put it off to the last available opportunity, just before everything came crashing down on them. There was one man who was at the mall in Memphis that was hit, and he described how everybody was screaming and carrying on, and how he called out to Jesus to help him. It's good to know that God hears us in those life and death situations when we need him. Since that man is alive and able to tell his story, it's quite apparent that God heard him, had mercy upon him, and spared his life.

God also hears us in those times of life when everything seems to be "crashing in" on us, too, and not just in the physical sense, either. We may have reached the "end of our rope", but God is there to hear us if we'll cry out to Him for help to save us. He'll also straighten out the mess we've made- this mess we call "life".

God hears and delivers us in the most desparate of situations, whether it be an oncoming tornado or everyday life. Those people in that story waited to the last minute to make preparations, but fortunately God spared them. Eternity is just around the corner, and although God does give us warnings that it's coming soon, we don't know exactly when it'll be here. We have to seriously consider eternity, where we're going to spend it, and do it now. Don't wait until the last minute to take "shelter from the storm". DO IT TODAY!
