I was reading news stories online this morning when I came across this very disturbing story. It's about a man who took a wilderness survival training course with a group of several other people, and he didn't survive. After the man had been in the 100 degree sun for ten hours, he began to hallucinate, speak incoherently, and collapse periodically from exhaustion. The part of this story that really makes me angry: the fact that the guides who were sent along with these people had access to water during the entire trip. The guides claim that they wanted to "push" this person to the limits, in order to "help" him and the others survive such a real situation. Before the trip, all the people taking the course had some water to drink, but they were not allowed to take any water with them on the course. What I'd like to know...what person who's familar (or not familar for that matter) with wilderness survival would go into an environment such as that without taking additional water with them? I can't see how depriving those people of taking more water (and other supplies) with them would have made the course more "real". After all, wouldn't most people take the necessary items they needed if they knew they were going into a similar situation? Here's the link to the story if you want to read more about it:
Man Dies of Thirst During Survival Test
We all need water to surive in the physical sense, but all of us require "water", spiritually speaking, too. As Christians, we sometimes go on with our busy lives and don't share the "spiritual water" to which we have access. Jesus is the "living water" (John 4:1-26) that people need to survive this world (and the hereafter), and it's our responsibility to share it with others. If we don't, those people will perish, too. The won't perish in the physical sense as that man did out in the desert, but they will in the spiritual sense, both now and for eternity.
We all need to be doing God's work that He called us to do, and share the "water" with others who are in need of it.
