Wear and Tear of Life

May 28, 2006 / by passtheword

Ever have the displeasure of moving? I say displeasure because it is one of those things in life that none of us should have to go through. I don’t just dislike moving- I loathe it. Ask my wife and she will tell you how difficult and irritable I become during one of these moves. All that packing, unpacking, changing your utilities, and performing all the other frustrating chores which go along with the “territory” makes me a very cranky person. :)

After living in an apartment for several years, we decided to make the move. Every year our lease would come up for renewal, we always got this little brochure-type thing stuck to our door stating our lease was about to expire. A sheet was always attached which detailed the disadvantages of moving. They wanted us to renew the lease, of course, and were quick to point out (what they considered, anyway) all the major inconveniences of packing up your stuff and “heading out”. One of these drawbacks was that moving causes a “wear and tear on your mind, body, and soul”. I thought that was rather clever and amusing, and I got a real kick out of that every year reading that to my wife.

I would have to agree that the “wear and tear” statement was true. However, moving isn’t the only endeavor in life that’s frustrating. We have many things in life vying for our attention, not just moving, and that does a lot of wear and tear on all of us eventually.

Let’s face it…We are all in need of some “mind, body, and soul restoration” after a while. Jesus is the great heart mender, soul healer, and body restorer. He can heal our hurts and give us a new direction in life, but only if we allow him to do so. Life will still have its obstacles and challenges, but Jesus can give us the ability to cope and undertake the difficulties of everyday life. Psalms 147:3 says that He “healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds”. So…if you are in need of some “repair”, look to Jesus. :)
